How To Be A Happier Person

More than 2,000 years ago, ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle said, “Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.” These words are still very true today, with happiness the aim in life. Although happiness is a broad term, it essentially signifies positive emotions like joy, satisfaction and contentment. Being a happier person is subjective and can vary from one person to the next, but generally, happiness is just about feeling good about yourself, your experiences, you friends and your life in general.

Happiness can also have many health benefits. Not only does it promote a healthy lifestyle, but being happy can also boost your immune system, keep stress at bay and protect your heart. But sometimes happiness is hard to come by, which is why you’ll have to sometimes put in some effort to be happy. Here are some helpful tips to being a happier person:

  1. Do things that you love

A great way to be happy is to engage in things that you love doing. Finding hobbies that make you happy is important and will lift your spirits whenever you’re feeling low or sad. As long as you continue to do things that put a smile on your face, you’ll never be short on happiness!

  1. Honor your values

Don’t change or forsake your values for anything or else you’ll risk your happiness. Holding onto what you what you believe in deep down will make you feel good about yourself, your choices and your life. Don’t sacrifice them for anything unless you want to feel less than whole. Always honor your values and you’ll find yourself happier then ever.

  1. Be with people that you love

There are many studies on happiness and they’ve found that people are the happiest when they are around those they love. There’s something amazing about surrounding yourself with loved ones who put a smile on your face. Have that feeling all the time by being with those that make you smile! Their joy and positivity will rub off on you.

  1. Look at the good in your life

Whenever you feel that life is just not going the way you want it and making you unhappy, look for the good in your life. Take inventory of what works and what is making you smile and throw out all the rest. Noticing the good things in your life will put things in perspective and make you realize all the positive things you have going for you, which will in turn make you happy.

  1. Have a purpose

If you find purpose in life, you’ll be happier about yourself and your contribution to the world. Many want to be part of something bigger than they are and look for things that fulfill them. So if you’re feeling lost and unhappy, finding purpose in something just might be what you need to turn that frown upside down.

  1. Be open to new things and change

Change can be scary and make you sad, but when you’re open to it, you’ll feel better about new things that will come your way. Change will happen regardless if you like it or not, so embracing it will make you happier when it does happen.

  1. Imagine the best for yourself

Think about what you really want out of life and then imagine it happening. Many don’t imagine for the best because they’re scared of things not happening they way they want it. But imagining getting everything you want is great motivation for actually making it happen. So dream big and don’t be scared to imagine yourself with everything you want!

  1. Pamper yourself

Doing things for yourself will always make you happy, so go ahead and pamper yourself! Go to the spa, buy the shoes, treat yourself to a delicious meal and other things that make you happy.

  1. Smile more

Acting happy and smiling more – even when you’re sad – can really make you feel happier. Just the act of smiling can make you feel better, so learn to smile more even when you don’t feel like it.

  1. Be grateful

Being grateful for what you have can make you happier. Remembering how lucky you are and being positive about the good things in your life will increase your happiness levels.
